Shedding Light on Common Myths About Visiting a Spa

Selfcare is the best care

There can be a lot of misconceptions about what visiting a spa is all about. You’ve probably heard them, we’ve definitely heard them, and we’re taking the time to dispel the myths.

Spas are only for women

The notion that spa services are only for women is a common misconception, but it is an old one that persists today. The reality is that self-care knows no gender. It is for anyone who prioritizes their health and wellbeing. Massages, facials and body treatments promote physical and mental wellness, and these benefits aren’t gender-specific.

Spa treatments are painful

While in certain services there can be some mild, temporary discomfort, for example during extractions, or feeling a tingling sensation during a chemical peel, our treatments are by and large pain-free and most would say delightful.

Many clients don’t mind a bit of short-term discomfort in a facial treatment that is filled with so many soothing and relaxing elements, such as steam and massage. The overall experience will be one of blissful rejuvenation so that the memory of anything else fades almost instantly.

The same is true for massage services. Our massage treatments are tailored to the individual’s preference. If a client doesn’t like a firmer massage, they won’t receive one! Communication is key to receiving the perfect treatment.

Spa treatments are only about relaxation

Relaxation is not a bad word! Scientific studies have shown that the healing act of therapeutic touch has benefits in reducing stress hormones that can be detrimental to one’s health, decreasing pain and inflammation, reducing instances of depression and promoting an increased quality of life.

All Spas are the same

This is like saying all restaurants are the same. Spas come in all different sizes and styles with a variety of specialties, price points, services and product lines.

At Montage we are a personalized, boutique spa focusing on quality skin and body care treatments which are tailored for the individual by highly skilled therapists, and complemented by top of the line retail skincare products. We pride ourselves on building long-term, lasting relationships with our clients that are built on mutual trust and appreciation.

Spa treatments are only for special occasions

You don’t need a special occasion to engage in self-care. While we often see clients in preparation for special occasions like weddings or events, self-care is an ongoing process, not a single appointment.

Reaching short and long term skincare goals, like reducing acne, lightening pigmentation or providing a more youthful, lifted appearance require a series of appointments that build on one another. Even a broader goal like keeping one’s skin healthy and glowing is achieved through a commitment to receiving regular facial treatments.

Another way to think about it is you don’t go to the gym once and expect to meet your fitness goals, the same can be said of skincare.
